2016 Dr. Pepper SONIC Games

July 14, 2016

The SONIC Drive in crew of the 801 East Dixie Drive drive-in has passed another hurdle, and is now one of 48 nationwide SONIC crews
advancing to the next level of SONIC’s annual Dr Pepper SONIC GAMES, a multi-month
competition and training program recognizing the best SONIC Drive-In crews across the
country. This group of 48 semifinalist crews will be narrowed down once more to the Final 12
before traveling to the national finals at the annual SONIC Convention in Nashville, Tenn. this
September.
“Advancing to the Top 48 in the Dr Pepper SONIC GAMES is an impressive feat, and we are
very proud of these crews,” said Rachael Kelly-Marcus, senior director of field training and
education for SONIC. “This is an extremely important training tool for us, and one that unifies
and motivates crews nationwide, creating a friendly competition allowing us to implement and
advance training methods in an engaging and rewarding way. The Dr Pepper SONIC GAMES
let us evolve and improve one of the things that makes SONIC great – our customer service.”
During July, the Top 48 teams will participate in the Traveling Knowledge Bowl, a game-show
style quiz testing their SONIC training and job knowledge. The results of these tests will be
announced in August, when the Final 12 teams will be unveiled. This batch of SONIC all-stars
will advance to the Ultimate Training event in Nashville where they will go head-to-head in two
days of team and individual competitions. Shortly after the finals competition, SONIC’s top
executives will honor the Final 12 crews and distribute medals to the gold, silver and bronze
winners in front of more than 3,500 SONIC franchisees, managers and crew members.
“Making it to the Top 48 is a huge accomplishment, and motivates our crew to continue to work
hard,” said Rick Fee, Director of Operations. “Knowing we are closer to the Final 12 is a huge
boost of confidence that will propel us through this next stage of the competition.”
Throughout the year, crews participating in the Dr Pepper SONIC GAMES take on
challenging team and individual competitions and quizzes in their local markets. The
competition spans nine months and tests crewmembers’ expertise in the areas of Carhop (food
delivery), Fountain (drink preparation), Switchboard (order taking), Dresser, Grill and Swamp
(food preparation).
“Dr Pepper has been a proud sponsor of the Dr Pepper SONIC GAMES for more than 20
years. The Top 48 crews have worked extremely hard to get here, and their enthusiasm for the
process makes this a rewarding partnership for us. We are honored to be a part of SONIC’s
commitment to making every guest experience memorable,” said Blaine Wood, director of sales
for Dr Pepper.
