Annual Shopping Spree Contributes $8,239 to Tri-State Food Bank

November 12, 2015

On November 12, local celebrities from Evansville-area media outlets raced through the aisle of Buehler’s IGA for the store’s annual shopping spree to benefit the Tri-State Food Bank. The teams, comprised of two members each, had five minutes to collect as many groceries as possible. Buehler’s IGA associates then rang up all the groceries collected by each team. The teams who collected the highest dollar amount of groceries were declared the winners. Coveted Buehler’s IGA Shopping Spree trophies were awarded to the top three teams. Teams are listed below according to the total each contributed:

1. WFIE 14 News - $1,827.22
2. Evansville Courier Press - $1,536.85
3. WEHT/WTVW - $1,415.93
4. Townsquare Media/WBKR 92.5 - $1,012.75
5. Midwest Communications/HOT96 FM - $936.87
6. Buehler’s IGA - $766.37

7. WEVV CBS & Fox 44 - $743.01

“This event has become a tradition for all of us, and we look forward to it every year,” said Craig Knies, division manager for Houchens Industries, parent company of Buehler’s IGA. “This is our twelfth year holding the shopping spree. The longevity of the event is a testament to the continued support of all the local media outlets and the Evansville-area community.”

The shopping spree also serves as a kickoff of the annual Scan Away Hunger campaign, which also benefits Tri-State Food Bank. Through December 27, customers can purchase a $5 bag of food that will be donated directly to Tri-State Food Bank. Scan Away Hunger traditionally results in an additional $5,000 of food items for Tri-State Food Bank.
